Psalm 46:10
“Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.”
[Emphasis added]
As I have previously talked about, there are many things that can prevent us from developing the close fellowship with God that we desire. And one of the chief stumbling blocks is not rightly knowing Who God is and not giving God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit the proper respect, reverence and honor they alone deserve, individually and collectively as the Godhead. Let us first put things in perspective by touching on what the Godhead is not:
Jesus is not your boyfriend.
The Holy Spirit is not your lover.
God is not your genie in a bottle.
I have heard the aforementioned references numerous times either directly or indirectly through implication. And while I certainly do not extend or place any condemnation on those who said or thought them, I can not and could not help but to inwardly cringe. Why? Because one of the things God desperately wants us to do is to know Him and thereby fearfully reverence Him in awe and wonder. Know His heart, know His character, know His promises, know His Son and know His proper position. "Be still and know that I am God. Those who know the Father know Me. Worship Me in Spirit and in truth." These and many other verses point directly to knowing God; Father, Sone and Holy Spirit, by putting each in His rightfully sacred place and not downgrading Him to the status of an imperfect human in a broken human relationship.
Even though God is and can be everything to us by filling where we are void and giving us what we need, He does so with righteousness and holiness because He is not a human. He is God; Father, Son and Spirit. So rest assured:
Jesus will be your true Friend.
The Holy Spirit will be your Comforter.
God will be your loving Father, Who offers you Grace and provision.
When we know Who God is then that is where true and intimate (close) fellowship begins. Oh to trust in Him and take Him at His Word.
Takeaways for you to remember:
Get to know God by reading His Word.
Spend time with God in prayer and worship.
Keep God in His rightful place: FIRST!
Yours in Christ!
