Proverbs 15:1
"A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare."
1 Peter 3:15
"Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it."
Do you know how Jesus won souls among the sinful? He had compassion and He shared the Gospel with kindness, dignity, soft (yet firm!) words and NOT ONCE did He compromise or water down the Gospel. You know why? Because you cannot impact what you insult. And the True Word of God will always prevail. Scripture is very clear that we are to evangelize and spread the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, but it is also clear on how we are to do so. Yelling? Screaming? Hate? Nope. Nope. Nope. With love. Love is loving others as we love ourselves. And if we as Believers know we are truly loved by God, Jesus died for our sins and Holy Spirit indwells us, then it will be a natural inclination to love ourselves well and others well and want the same for them. Because God is Love and soo Loves the world that He doesn't want anyone to perish, He wants the best for His creation here on earth. What is the best? Life lived with Jesus, submitted to God's Will and empowered by Holy Spirit to walk uprightly in the fear and admonition of the Lord. We don’t love others just so we can agree with them. We love others because God instructs us to.
We have all heard the old adage, that you catch more flies with honey. Well, not only does a soft answer turn away wrath, but a quietly lived righteous life confounds your enemies and shows non Believers the freedom available in Jesus. When Jesus sat, ate and talked with sinners, His mere presence and show of respect honored them as humans, imperfect but deserving; a vessel with the capacity to turn from sin and receive eternal life.
As an entrepreneur and expert in my field, there have been many times when I have been in a room or media platform with others of opposing views and it tickled me to see Holy Spirit speak through me and confound the non Believers present who would forego speaking about the business topic at hand but instead were intent on proving God a liar or Jesus a fallacy. Now, did they suddenly turn from their wicked ways after our conversation? I have no idea, but what I do know is the looks on their faces, the shift in their postures and the wonder of their gratitude after encountering soft, true words from me that were spoken in kindness, love and the Truth of the Gospel. Mind you, these were not ministry events [that is a whole other story!], but business events in the marketplace that God hijacked for His Glory.
So friends, when we encounter others with different views, lifestyles, status, etc. we are simply called to share Jesus boldly, unapologetically but respectfully to this other human.
Takeaways for you to remember:
1. Connect without compromise.
2. Love others as God loves you.
3. Extend kindness, dignity, respect as you share the Gospel.
Yours in Christ!
